Wow guys...the first Orientation for 2005 has finally ended. A mixture of feelings I guess ?? At least for me. Sad, relieved, depressed, happy, stressed [about the workload waiting for us] etc... But hey ! We made it through all the rollercoaster rides as a team - together =0D
Just wanna thank each and every one of you for your hard work ! To the admin committee, to organizing committee, to the committee for each event, to the log committee [kudos to you all !], every single one of you !! Yeah, there were hiccups here and there but hello, it's our first time organizing Orientation and if we had done it perfectly...well, just say it would have been a miracle. Haha ! You guys did great given that this is our first time doing such an event ~
Each one of you gave your best for everything...even for all the last minute, impromptu stuff...time fill-ups, cheers...entertainment...wow...we can now go and promote ourselves to be hosts for prom. Haha !~!
Don't feel like a loser or anything else if you have had hiccups in your event. I had many in mine...but thank God for the effective team of OGLs and OHLs we chose =0D It's near impossible to prevent hiccups in huge events...but you did well my friends, and cheer 'cos the whole event was a huge success !
You guys have grown so much...wah say...I see Stuck taking the mike...I see Wan Ling trying to ra-ra the crowd and brief them !! Wow !!! I see Liane and Jia Yan becoming experts as emcees...I see Kumar organizing MMM...Halim ! Become first IC, briefing...ra-ra-ing [without notes anymore !!!]...Kurseth...OHA...Mar...Height and weight...haha...just kidding Mar ~ Don't give yourself shit guys, 'cos you don't deserve it. Be proud of youself instead, 'cos you faced and overcome challenges you used to think you never could do =0D I'm a proud lady this Orientation, proud of you guys, proud of the OGLs, proud of the OHLs, proud of the J1s...
And definitely, don't let what went wrong get you down or turn you off. Learn from each and every one of them and we'll make sure it doesn't happen again in future events yeah ?
I'm sure what we experienced for this whole week, we'll never forget 'em right ?? We've made so many new friends, be it with the J2s or J1s...wow...I can't wait for the second Orientation =0)
Rest well my team-mates !! I'll see you guys again soon !!!
Love ya guys !!

okay. we need to update. so here i am!!!
update. update.
haha.
enough of the lameness. what has council been doing recently? hmmm...lets think.
21-22 nov - OGL camp
hmmm lets see. had some issues within us for some time cuz of ogl camp..lil screw ups here and there i must admit. however, the camp went on like any other camp (tiring, boring at some points, super hyper at others). so far so good? haha, i think the council had fun. i did!!! wooow whee!!!!!!! but it was highly stressful....esp for the MMM and log comm...my goodness. proposals after proposals after proposals...and logistics was never fun. i know. for some strange reason i ended up there. what in the world.....
anyways. moving on.
23 nov (yes, you saw right. the day after camp. madness) - council debrief and thrashing out session.
wow. halim's debrief took ages. thought it'll never end. we sorted out our mistakes, lil screw ups, other orientation plans etc. however, it was the thrashing out session that really meant something.
at the thrashing out, we threw everything we suppressed over the past few weeks. people raising their voices, anger, tears, everything. finally hit us that people are leaving. sigh. so many things.....don't be surprised (or stupid), every cca has its problems and disunity.
everything settled now. now, we're stronger, completely united and infallible. don't anyone try to mess with us now! muahahahaha.
meetings over the next few days to decide our orientation comm...outings to shop and meet people for prom..and oh meetings....yada yada..
29 nov - shopping (again)
okay. fifi (zhen), kurseth, mar, nat, sushi, ms yong, jia yan, fei and i went shopping yesterday for prom lucky draw prizes yesterday...drove ms yong mad haha!!! oh wells. settled all our prom gifts!! woohoo!! yay!!
i love shopping.
meeting tmr again for mass dance i think...hmm...
anyways. just a shout out:
I LOVE YA ALL!!! WOOHOO!!! ORIENTATION AND PROM ARE GONNA BE A BLAST!!! WOW WHEE! YOWSERS!!
*Jinx!* - out!

Was tagging the board...and I thought...might as well post something...since 'k' says this blog is dead and we DO take feedbacks =0D
This is my two cents' worth, what I feel...I dunno what you will think after reading this whole post - but hey ~ Everyone is entitled to their opinion and view. So - have yours while I will write mine out ^_^
The response to the End-of-Year Bash was nothing less of these few words :
- Utterly disappointing
- Confusing
You asked for a bash during SDS [Students' Dialogue Session], said you needed to let your hair down etc... This suggestion came from LT5 and was brought back to the council room to all 18 of us. Good idea. Why not ?! Liane volunteered to take charge of it. Yes, our TAs came down on us, advising us to re-think cos we will be bogged down by major events like the Grad. Night, Orientation etc... We didn't relent. We knew...okay...THOUGHT we would really need a bash to celebrate the end of this year, end of PW, end of one year of all sorts of negative moods...just to end 2004 on a happier note before we start the new term facing even worse obstacles. We had dinner with Ms. Lai, proposed this idea and pushed for it. All councillors around her were giving her the impression that "YES !! WE MUST HAVE THE BASH !!" - and we didn't mind if we had to work our asses off after finish proposals for Orientation and Grad. Night to continue on the bash.
We got 'zhammed' by our TAs, for working on it and not imforming them, not giving them proposals etc. Fine. We let them 'zham' us, as long as they allow us to carry out this bash. We worked to give them proposals. Liane and the Bash Committee worked their asses off for this. They came back on Saturdays to have meetings, scout for places for the bash to take place, look for sponsors, entertainers etc etc. Anything and everything that is needed to make this bash a blast so you all can have fun.
Guess what too ? The whole council, all 18 of us, were willing to act as bodyguards, to patrol the whole area to ensure security and safety, during the bash itself so that you can just let your hair down, not worry and have fun ! We didn't mind that we will not be able to participate in the bash. It's alright, someone needs to sacrifice his/her part of fun - and since we are known as the 'sai kang' gang, we'll do it. Your job is just to have fun.
So the proposal came through, and when we announced, I saw people standing up, obviously not giving basic respect to Liane, who was trying to tell you guys something that you wanted so much - or rather, we thought you wanted so much. No one bothered to listen, no one bothered to do what we request for - just a simple headcount of who wanted to go. I thank the CG Reps who counted who wanted to go though. Thank you guys =0)
So we scrap the whole thing. Weeks of hard work down the drain. Everything else fitted perfectly, somehow, somewhere, the last piece of the jigsaw puzzle refused to fit itself in.
$15 is expensive for a bash at Sentosa...you rather have it in school... You know...sometimes I really don't know what you guys really want...what you are thinking...you compare MJC to other JCs like VJC...they have parties at clubs etc and we don't...we have no social life in school...we don't have bashes...we don't have parties...
So what does this round of response towards the Bash implies ?
You compare, you complain, you say we don't take feedback, say we do nuts. So what's up with the bash ? Everything goes both ways. When you give us comments, we must take them and work on them, or comments will be useless. Same thing. When we do take your feedback and act on it, at least respond to it. This bash is for us - not for Ms. Lai, not the school admin, not even the J2s. It's for us - the J1 students.
So there goes our bash. I'm very disappointed and annoyed - for the councillors who worked like hell for this. I've seen them try to juggle the workload the Grad. Night and Orientation Committee delegate to them, the TAs, PW [Yes, if you recall, 'weeks before' would mean that we were working on it while 'cheonging' our PW stuff]...and they deserve the basic credit of trying their best to give what the students want despite all the slamming and accusations that we do nuts for the students.
If anyone of you would like to slam the council for doing nothing again - come straight to me and say it to my face, then give constructive feedback on how we can improve ourselves and show to you that we are doing something. For the hard work the councillors have put in - I've seen them put in - they deserve nothing like this. Substantiate your point(s) and please explain to me the rationale behind the response to the bash, 'cos I really don't understand it at all.
And yes, this is the President of the Students' Council speaking. And like I've mentioned before - if you wanna slam us, experience at least for a week being an MJC councillor. Talking based on what you hear equals nothing 'cos you don't know what you really are talking about. You are basically 'going with the flow'. No ?
*Shrugs*

okay. we've been making announcements for the beach bash over wednesday and friday..but the response was abysmal. reasons?
1. everyone wanted to hurry off to recess/next lecture
2. no one wanted to pay for an event at sentosa
3. half of the students ponned lecture/classes
4. er...people hate me?
5. date clashes with camps
6. students wanted the event to be held in school
okay. sigh. i can't say i'm pissed, cuz i'm not, its more of disappointment. the students have been pestering us for an end year bash, which was why we initiated one in the first place. we wanted it to be a blast, which was one of the reasons why we decided to hold it at sentosa. another reason was cuz we weren't allowed to hold it in school (complaints after love meridian day...residents can get pretty anal). i decided to take charge of this event, and we planned and rushed proposals to make sure everything was settled, logistics, entertainment and f&b.
however, despite all that rush work and risking our heads (TAs and SCs included) students didn't want to come (look at reasons stated above). i'm annoyed, cuz people have been pestering me to have a bash, and in the end, they decide against coming. is 15 bucks too expensive? its at sentosa you know, and the quotation is already very reasonable. like i've said, we can't hold it in school; that's against ms lai's wishes. other hotels and bars have exhorbitant rates which we obviously cannot afford. other events at sentosa can costup to 20 bucks per person; i don't think our prices are unreasonable considering its venue.
about the date, i admit, an oversight on our part as there are many CCA camps being held at that period of time. however, it wasn't voiced out by the students while i was making the announcement. we're more than ready to make changes to the date, but if i have less than 50 people willing to attend this event now, how can i expect 450 to turn up if i change the date?
if you wanted a bash right from the start and have been pestering the councillors to hold one, then is it too much to ask of you to give me a few minutes of your time to allow me to speak about it? i've asked the CG reps to hand in the no. of people interested in attending the bash, but by the end of the day, i had less than 10 classes giving me the numbers.
the SC has put in effort to voice out the students' wishes and also to carry them through. we've heard the students' demands for a bash and voiced it out to ms lai, who agreed to it as long as its out of school. this we've laid in front of the students, and now we've been brutally rejected by the same people who asked for it. and the students complain that we don't voice out their feedback, that we're lumpant and too afraid of the authorities. well, we've risked our heads while proposing this event, as ms lai wasn't informed about it as it was being planned.
feedback works two ways. it must first be voiced out by the students, before being brought forward and acted on by the SC and then received by the students. if the students do not respond to the very demands they voiced out, how can we expect them to be successfully carried through? please don't expect the SC to do everything, we need the students' coorperation as well. the students can't say we did nothing, cuz when we do try our best to fulfill the students' desires, the students don't want to participate.
its a pity. ms yong, ms ng, jia yan and i went to meet up with the sentosa sales officer and checked out the place at the same time. palawan beach is beautiful.
